PROBLEM: NOx is a pollutant coming from the tailpipe of vehicles contributing to millions of premature worldwide deaths each year. Asthma, cancer and heart disease (accelerators for COVID-19 mortality) have shown significant increases as a result of NOx pollution. Mobile sources are responsible for up to 80% of NOx emissions. Since we don’t know who (specifically) is polluting, how can we fix it?
SOLUTION: Wi-NOx™ is SensorComm’s IoT-based (Internet-of-Things) mobile pollution monitoring system that captures the real-time pollution footprint of vehicles and delivers operational efficiencies to transportation managers and drivers that include fuel savings, predictive maintenance and performance optimization. The system monitors NOx emissions at the point of origin (vehicle tailpipe) where pollution enters the environment. The IoT-based system also deploys significant technology in artificial intelligence (AI), spectrum sensing and machine learning (ML) algorithms to extract information from the time series data. The system employs a data surety strategy that was developed in part from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program.* Business use cases have been developed for fleet, delivery, waste, transport, mass-transit and consumer vehicles. Global rollout is underway.
